The Invisalign Experience: What You Should Know About Clear Braces
Invisalign clear braces are a newer form of orthodontic treatment sweeping the world. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign offers a way for patients to correct the appearance and function of their smile without the metal, brackets, and wires typically associated with braces. Invisalign is used to correct the appearance and function of a patient’s smile and bite. Using custom-made clear aligners which will be changed out according to your orthodontist, your teeth are slowly shifted into a more desired position. You must wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day, removing them to eat, drink or clean your teeth.
Invisalign Treatment Length
Depending on the severity of your dental or bite issues and various other factors, Invisalign treatment can vary. For adults, treatment usually takes around 12 months. For teens, treatment can range between 9 and 18 months. Invisalign also requires fewer orthodontic appointments than traditional braces, giving you more free time to enjoy life and have fun!
Invisalign Discomfort & Issues
Most patients report minimal discomfort and pain with Invisalign treatment after the first few days. When you first get Invisalign aligners, you may experience increased discomfort, especially if you have to talk and use your mouth often. If you feel as though your aligners are too uncomfortable, contact Dr. Teeth in Katy, we’d be happy to help!
Caring for Invisalign Aligners
In order to keep your Invisalign clear braces “invisible,” it is important to care for them properly. You should never eat or drink anything other than water while wearing your aligners. Once you have eaten, it is important to brush your teeth before sticking the aligners back in. Each night we recommend gently brushing your aligners using only cold water and then rinsing them with cold water. Hot water or temperatures can warp and melt your aligners, be careful!
